About the Chevrolet Equinox
Vehicle Summary
In the world of small SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox has been a favorite for many years. Its sleek styling and surprisingly spacious interior, combined with its comfortable ride and ample trim/customization options, make it a popular option for singles, couples, and growing families alike.

2010 - Present Chevrolet Equinox Trim Configurations
The second generation of the Chevrolet Equinox SUV was released in the United States in 2009, boasting a standard 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine across all four of its trim levels and an upgraded V6 engine on its LTZ trim. With the V6 engine and all-wheel drive, the Chevrolet Equinox towing capacity is an estimated 3,500 pounds when properly equipped.1
Throughout the second generation, the Chevrolet Equinox saw a number of changes from one model year to the next. For instance, for the Chevrolet Equinox 2015, Chevroletintroduced innovative available 4G LTE connections with in-car Wi-Fi to accommodate the growing demand for tech features.2 Drivers across all second-generation vehicles of the Chevrolet Equinox will enjoy the spacious interior and ample cargo storage space, maxing out at 63.7 cubic square feet with rear seats folded down in all trims.
2010-2017 Trims
The 2010-2014 model years give you the option of four trim selections, which include:
- LS - keyless entry, Bluetooth® connectivity, USB interface, satellite radio, and a sliding/reclining split second row seat
- 1LT - heated mirrors, smartphone integration (in 2014 model year and newer), roof rails, leather-wrapped steering wheel
- 2LT - heated front seats, eight-way driver seat, upgraded sound system
- LTZ - larger 18-inch wheels, leather upholstery, optional V6 engine
From 2015 - 2017, trim options change slightly to add a new base L trim and combine the 1LT and 2LT trims into a single Chevrolet Equinox LT trim option with two subsets. As a result, trim options for the 2015 - 2017 Chevrolet Equinox are as follows:
2015 - 2017 Trims
- L - 17-inch wheels, keyless entry, available in-car Wi-Fi hotspot2 and 4G LTE connectivity, two six-speaker sound system
- LS - satellite radio, optional all-wheel drive, optional tablet holders on seat backs.
- 1LT - rear privacy glass, standard rearview camera, seven-inch touchscreen interface
- 2LT - remote start, upgraded sound system
- LTZ - lane-departure warning system and forward collision alert
The Chevrolet Equinox saw a complete redesign in 2018, which resulted in an overall lighter vehicle and improved fuel efficiency. For comparison, the mpg for the Chevrolet Equinox 2017 base LS trim with four-cylinder engine was an estimated 25 mpg combined (21 city and 31 highway)3. In the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, the base L trim with its four-cylinder engine gets an estimated 28 mpg combined (26 city and 32 highway)3.
For 2018, there is also a Chevrolet Equinox diesel engine available, which amps up fuel economy a bit. Specifically, the base L trim with four-cylinder diesel engine gets an estimated 32 mpg combined (28 city and 39 highway).3
In terms of storage space, this generation of Chevrolet Equinox is largely unchanged. For comparison, the 2018 Equinox offers a maximum of 63.5 cubic feet, which is slightly less thanthe 63.7 cubic feet offered by the Chevrolet Equinox 2012 and other second-generation model years.
2018 - Present Trims
For the third generation of Chevrolet Equinox, the LTZ trim is replaced with the Premier trim. The LT trim is no longer divided into two - the 1LT and 2LT - though it does come with two available feature packages.
Specific trims and new features for the Chevrolet Equinox 2018 are outlined below:
- L - engine stop-start system, rearview camera, keyless entry/ignition, available 4G LTE connectivity with mobile Wi-Fi hotspot2
- LS - greater range of exterior color options, included spare tire/tire jack, rear floor mats, digital compass
- LT - satellite radio availability, rear privacy glass, leather-wrapped shift knob, optional Sun and Infotainment package (panoramic sunroof, 8-inch touchscreen) or Confidence and Convenience package (rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, and more)
- Premier - hands-free liftgate, chrome accents on the exterior, ambient lighting, wireless device charging
1Various factors may impact towing capacity, including weight of passengers, cargo, and options/accessories.
2Requires data plan and compatible device.
3Fuel economy figures are based on EPA estimates for when vehicle sold as new. Fuel economy may vary for reasons like driving conditions and vehicle history. Unless specified, figures are for vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. See fueleconomy.gov.

Reviews for Chevrolet Equinox
Not worth the price
The blue tooth only syncs you phone call, not your actual phone. You will need a cable to plug in your phone to sync music or navigation. The car will only tell you when you're close to empty in gas not how many miles u til empty. The car will not charge your phone if it's in the turned off position. The blind spots are horrible. Back up camera is only a camera no lines. The list goes on. I had a 2009 Mercury mariner premier prior and for way less money my car did way more.
Pros
- Cabin Noise:
- Power:
- Seat Comfort: Seats are nice
Cons
- Technology and Entertainment: Even though it claims to have all this stuff it falls short
- Fuel Economy:
- Visibility:
Great vehicle, great price!
I was in the market for a SUV but didn’t need an oversized vehicle. My Equinox gets very good gas mileage, is roomy with comfortable seating, and has a smooth ride. I love it!!
Pros
- Fuel Economy:
- Ride and Handling:
- Seat Comfort:
Easy process/ fabricated description
The vehicle wasn’t cleaned as described. There was several stains after asking them to remove them they sprayed a cleaner without removing the stain and left it all on my rear view mirror without even wiping it clean. I was able to remove the stains myself. The vehicle had hair and other dirt throughout evidence that it wasn’t thoroughly cleaned as advertised
Pros
- Interior Space:
Cons
- Braking: I had the vehicle inspected and it was found to have 3mm left on the pads and recommended to replace. Made an appointment and Carnac said the brakes aren’t low enough to replace.
- Power: Lacks power accelerating
